Sauna seminar in Hungary, set by the “Sun Bath” owner and professional sauna master Viesturs Luka-Indāns has successfully concluded. In this seminar Viesturs gave the knowledge he had gained in several years working with his clients. In this three-day long seminar took a part twenty new sauna masters.
The seminar was made of two parts – theoretical and practical. The theoretical part consisted from a wide range of topics. Viesturs introduced the new sauna masters with the parts of sauna ritual, techniques of massage with whisks, how to make whisk by yourself, paying attention to the theme of the sauna master’s contact with the client, much has been said about the meditation in sauna. Viesturs gave the information about human physical and mental health, which is very important to know when going in sauna. After theory followed a practical part, during which each of the new sauna masters tried their hand at massaging with whisks in sauna. Viesturs gave his advices, comments and corrections if it was needed.
Viesturs says that this seminar gave him an interesting experience because he also visited a traditional Hungarian bath. Hungarians took their bathing traditions from the Austrians. What exactly is a Hungarian bath, and how it differs from the Latvian? The main difference is that instead of massaging with whisks Hungarians use towels. The hot air in sauna is moved and directed to the client’s body with the help of towel, but the towel doesn’t touch the client’s body as whisks do. In Hungarian sauna essential oils are very widely used. Viesturs says that he gives the priority to different teas instead of essential oils, however, ventilation with towel he’ll try in his sauna in Riga.
Viesturs is satisfied with his work and is happy about the new ideas and lessons learned in Hungary. In the hope that the new sauna masters will use the knowledge gained in the seminar and the Latvian sauna traditions will become more and more popular.
